Immeasurably More
Well now, friend, step right up on this ol’ front porch and grab yourself a comfy seat that’s plum rocked more folks than a front‑row pew at a summer tent revival. Your visit is a sight better than a cool breeze on a real hot July afternoon. You know, I was sittin’ here watchin an ol’ rooster this mornin’ as he was tryin’ his best to convince a whole flock of hens that he’d plum done discovered the true meanin’ of life, even though he was standin’ on the same ol’ fence post he always stands on. It sho’-nuff’ reminded me how we sometimes ask God for lil’ tiny things while He’s perched there ready to pour out blessin’s that’d make even that ol’ rooster stop crowin’ right in mid‑sentence.
Ephesians 3:20-21, where Paul tells us, “God is able to do immeasurably more than anything we ask or imagine.” That there’s not just a verse. That there’s a real promise from a God who plum delights in out‑doing all our expectations.
Let’s take another real good look at the thief on the cross in Luke 23:42. He didn’t ask for heaven. He didn’t ask for salvation. Recognizing that Jesus was certainly the Son of God, He simply said, “Remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” Now that there’s about as small and humble a request as a person could ever make. But Jesus didn’t stop at remembrance. In Luke 23:43, He answered, “Today you will be with Me in paradise.” That there’s the true heart of God. He don’t give out leftovers. He sho’-nuff’ gives out real abundance.
Psalm 37:5 adds another layer of truth. “Commit your way to the Lord. Trust in Him and He will act.” God ain’t just sittin up in heaven handin’ out real polite lil’ blessin’s like a shy lil’ ol’ squirrel passin’ out acorns to his friends. God acts. He moves. He exceeds. He surprises. And He does it through His mighty power at work right within us.
Friend, God wants to do immeasurably more in your life, too. Not just enough to keep you afloat. Not just enough to make you be smilin’ politely while you’re at church. He wants to give you a life that only He can produce. If you’ll seek Him, trust Him, and stay focused on Him, He’ll carry out things you can’t even begin to imagine. He delights in goin’ far above and way beyond.
Father, thank You for being a God who does more than we ask or imagine. Help us trust Your heart, follow Your lead, and expect Your goodness. Work in us and through us in ways that show Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Well then, friend, don’t you let your tiny lil’ ol' prayers convince you that God only hands out lil’ tiny answers. He ain’t no small‑portion kind of God. He’s an immeasurably‑more God even while you’re standin’ right in the middle of your everyday life wonderin’ if anything is changin’ at all. What looks mighty ordinary right now may become tomorrow’s jaw‑droppin’ miracle. Just as a sunrise comes sneakin’ up behind the hills and surprises even the grumpiest ol’ barn goat that thought the night would last forever, God will slip fresh hope right into your story again. And long after all them ol’ bullfrogs quiet down from their croakin’, and the cool breeze settles even the fiercest creatures in the forest, His goodness will still be hummin’ along real steady right inside your heart, softly remindin’ you that He don’t never stop exceedin’ any of our earthly expectations.
With joy,
Gwen
