Heart Alignment
Now, friend, let me tell you somethin’ real good right here. If life had a steerin’ wheel, most of us would be drivin’ like a high‑energy squirrel that done drank three cups of strong coffee, swervin’ all over creation and wonderin’ why in the world we keep landin’ in the ditch. Before we go any further, let’s anchor ourselves in Psalm 25:4-5, where David prays, “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me.” That right there’s the heartbeat of spiritual alignment. And it ties perfectly to Romans 12:2, where Paul tells us not to be conformed to this ol’ world but to be transformed by the renewin’ of our minds. That’s God’s way of sayin’, “Quit tryin’ to think like the world and start thinkin’ like Me.” Andrew Murray put it plain as hot, buttered cornbread when he said, “Prayer ain’t gettin’ God to line up with us, but us learnin’ to line up with Him.” Friend, that’ll preach a whole revival.
You see, friend, you can’t just stroll into church, watch a program, or skim a devotional and say, “Well, that there patched me up real good like duct tape on a leaky bucket.” No, siree. This is an everyday kind o’ choice. A moment‑by‑moment kind o’ choice. It’s a “Lord, please get my thoughts, my steps, and my stubborn self lined up with You” kind o’ choice. An’ when you finally admit you’ve been walkin’ in the wrong direction like a confused, ol’ raccoon wanderin’ into somebody’s picnic, that’s when peace comes driftin’ in like a soft breeze through the Chinaberry trees.
If you ain’t never given your life to Christ, friend, I pray today’s the day you stop runnin’ from Him like a spooked lil’ ol’ jackrabbit an’ turn toward Him instead. May the Holy Spirit shine a spotlight on your heart so bright that even the nosiest ol’ possum in the woods could see the truth of where you’re standin’.
And if you’re already a believer but somehow done went an’ drifted back like a wanderin’ cow that keeps findin’ the same ol’ hole in the fence, ask yourself what pulled you off course. I’ll tell you real plain. It’s seein’ life the world’s way and livin’ like the world lives. We spend more time with folks who keep on nudgin’ us toward selfishness than we do with the Father who is callin’ us toward holiness. No wonder our spiritual tires get so far out of alignment they git to wobblin’ like a grocery cart with a mind of its own.
So, friend, maybe today’s the day you pull your soul into the shop for a good, old‑fashioned spiritual realignment. Let the Lord to straighten your path, so you don’t end up stuck in some detour chasin’ your own plans like a silly ol’ hound dog chasin’ his tail.
Father, thank You for callin’ me to be transformed by the renewin’ of my mind. Help me align my thoughts, my desires, and my steps with You. Shine Your light on every place where I’ve done drifted and draw me back into Your perfect will. In Jesus’ mighty Name, Amen.
Now, friend, as you journey back down the trail and into the adventures of your day, don’t you dare go wanderin’ ‘round like a bewildered armadillo tryin’ to remember which direction the highway runs. You’re a beloved child of God, called to walk in His will, not the world’s whims. When you let Him align your heart, even the troubles that come lumberin’ in, like a muddy ol’ hog lookin’ for mischief, can’t even shake what He’s already settled deep inside you. So, tilt that chin upward, pull them shoulders back like you mean it, and step on out there with the boldness of a barnyard peacock that’s plum certain the whole sunrise showed up just to admire his beautiful tail feathers. The God who called you is the very same God who equips you, guides you, and keeps you real steady on the path ahead, no matter how many ornery critters get to tryin’ to cross it.
With joy,
Gwen
