Harvest for the Faithful

Well now, my stars, friend, you wandered up here right when I needed some real good company. Pull up a mighty comfy rocker and settle yourself over here for a spell. I’ve been thinkin’ about how easy it is to grow weary in doin’ good, the way a tired ol’ farmhand feels after chasin’ a stubborn lil’ ol’ goat that plum refuses to stay in the pen. Some days it feels like you pour out your heart, your time, your strength, and all you get back is dust and sweat. But the Lord sees every bit of it.

Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” That verse sho’-nuff’ reminds us that God’s timing ain’t ever rushed, but it’s always right. Sometimes the harvest comes slow, like corn that positively takes its own sweet time sproutin’ after a long rain. But it sure as shootin’ comes sproutin’ in due time.

I watched a story once about young George Washington, and, friend, that lil’ ol’ boy met failure the way an ol’ rooster meets sunrise. It came at him again and again. But he kept right on goin’. He kept right on showin’ up. And that kind of grit deserves some real applause. We often celebrate the ones that win, but sometimes the real downright heroes are the ones still runnin’ even when the finish line feels mighty far away.

Second Thessalonians 3:13 says, “Do not grow weary in doing good.” That there means God knows the weight you’re carryin’. He plum knows the battles you fight. He plum knows the quiet moments when you wonder if your efforts matter. And He sho’-nuff’ promises that perseverance will bear fruit even if it sprouts later than you hoped.

Maybe you know a child that keeps tryin’ even though they’re not the star. Maybe you know a friend whose business keeps on hittin’ bumps, or a marriage that keeps on facin’ storms, or a believer whose faith keeps on gettin’ tested. They haven’t arrived, but they haven’t quit either. Tell ‘em you see it. Tell ‘em it matters. Sometimes that encouragement is the very thing that keeps a person movin’ forward.

Father, thank You for strength when we feel weary. Thank You for remindin’ us that perseverance pleases You. Help us keep doin’ good with joy and trust Your timing. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Alright then, friend, you go on now and be carryin’ this here truth with you with grit steadier than an ol’ tractor crawlin’ up a steep hill. Keep sowin’, keep showin’ up, and keep trustin’ the Lord’s harvest. You’ve gotta keep right on movin’ forward with the quiet determination of a sunflower that keeps on turnin’ toward the light no matter how many clouds come rollin’ in. And remember, the Lord sees every one of them good seeds you sow, and He will bring the fruit of the harvest right on time when it’s needed most.

With joy,

Gwen
