Growing in Grace

Picture this: we’re rocking on the porch at day’s end, fireflies blinking like Heaven’s Morse code, and you’re carrying the weight of the world in your arms. And I say, “Well, golly!” Because, friend, God sees every bit of that load you haul, He honors the quiet faithfulness nobody else notices.

Hebrews 6:1 leans in like a wise old neighbor and says, “Let’s quit circling the basics and grow up a bit.” Or as ole’ rooster himself, Foghorn Leghorn, might put it, “I say, I say, don’t keep ‘a-stayin a chick when the Lord’s makin’ you a full‑grown bird.”

Now, as a momma and a “Birdie” (grandma), I’ve fed enough babies to know that teaching someone to eat is a full‑time rodeo. First it’s mushy peas, then tiny bites, then one day they’re cutting their own pancakes like they invented breakfast. Growing up takes time, patience, and a whole lot of mess.

Spiritually, it’s the same story. Some folks meet Jesus and then camp out on the nursery floor forever. They love the milk but never pick up the fork. And oh, the feast they’re ‘a-missin’! Once you move past baby food faith, you start ‘a-tastin’ the rich, seasoned goodness of walkin’ with Christ with some of His wisdom, courage, joy, and purpose. It’s like going from strained carrots to Sunday pot roast.

But growing requires stretching. Stepping out. Learning to feed yourself instead of waiting for someone else to spoon‑feed your soul. Sermons are wonderful, but they’re not meant to be your only meal. God invites you to His table daily.

So, Hebrews calls out again, “Let’s move on. Let’s mature.” Not in a scolding way, more like a gentle nudge from Someone who knows what you’re capable of becoming.

And friend, you really can grow. You really can deepen. You really can step into the sturdy, steady life God designed for you.

Father, give me a humble heart that longs to know You more. Teach me kindness, patience, and love. Open my mind to Your truth and strengthen my faith so I trust You in every trial. Shape my heart, guide my steps, and draw me closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

And as you grow in Him each day, may the Lord bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you, and give you peace, you know that real kind of deep, porch‑sittin’ kind of peace.
