Walkin’ Out Your Calling

Come right on up to this here porch and settle yourself right in. The sun’s ‘a-stretching awake, the birds are ‘a-tuning up, and the day feels like a fresh biscuit straight from your grandma’s oven, warm, simple, and full of promise. Let your heart rise with gratitude right along with it because God’s love is steady as the sunrise.

Now, right over in Matthes 28:19, Jesus once said, “Go and make disciples of all nations…” And if any ‘ole farmer had been standing there, he’d have hollered, “Golllll‑ly, that’s a mighty big assignment!” But Jesus wasn’t giving a suggestion. He was handing out marching orders. Not “sit,” not “wait,” not “think about it.” Go.

But here’s the thing: “Go” doesn’t always mean pack your bags and head for far‑off lands. Sometimes it means just walking across the yard, across the office, across the grocery aisle. Little “Aunt Suzy” would’ve said, “Why, shoot, you can disciple folks right where you’re ‘a-standin’.”

Jesus told us to teach, to share, to love, to invite people into the life‑changing truth of the gospel. That ‘ole arrogant barnyard rooster would flap his wings and shout, “I say, don’t you keep that good news locked up like last year’s seed corn!” Because the Great Commission isn’t about ability. It’s about availability!

And then in Matthew 28:20, Jesus gives the sweetest promise of all: “I am with you always.” Not sometimes. Not when you feel brave. Always. When your voice shakes. When you’re unsure. When you wonder if you’re the right person for the job. He’s right there, steadying your steps.

Our purpose is duplication through receiving the gospel, growing in it, sharing it, and helping others do the same. Like ripples on a pond, one obedient heart can touch lives you’ll never even meet.

Father, thank You for salvation and for trusting me with Your message. Give me courage to speak, compassion to serve, and wisdom to love well. Open my eyes to the opportunities You place before me, and let my life point others to Jesus. Amen.

Now step off this porch and right on into your day with this truth tucked in your heart: the Great Commission isn’t for “special Christians. It’s for you and me! Every conversation, every kindness, every moment is a chance to shine Christ’s love. Go with confidence, go with joy, and go knowing Jesus walks every step beside you.

With joy,

Gwen
