Get Back in the Light
Alright, now, I’ll tell you what, Buttercup, you come right on over here and settle yourself on this here little cushioned stool like a lil’ ol’ squirrel ‘a-tryin’ to be ‘a-hidin’ three acorns in the same ol’ hole. We’re ‘bout to be ‘a-tiptoein’ into a truth brighter than a junebug ‘a-bouncin’ off a porch light. First John 1:7 done says, “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son purifies us from all sin.” And Psalm 36:9 also done reminds us, “In Your light we see light.” That there is the Bible’s way of ‘a-sayin’ you can’t be ‘a-walkin’ in God’s sunshine while ‘a-tryin’ to hide in the shadows like a lil’ ol’ raccoon ‘a-stealin’ cat food.
My stars, Buttercup, folks done get mighty confused ‘bout confession. They be ‘a-sayin’, “If all my sins were forgiven when I got saved, why do I need to keep on confessin’?” Well, that there is like ‘a-sayin’, “I done washed my truck once, so why is it dirty all over again?” You’re saved once, but fellowship needs regular cleanin’ up, just like real muddy boots on a nasty, rainy day.
Be ‘a-thinkin’ ‘bout marriage. You ever done somethin’ your spouse don’t approve of, and suddenly the house done felt colder than a frog’s belly in February? You were still married, but the fellowship was ‘a-limpin’ along like a rooster with one tail feather. When you apologized, the warmth came back. That there’s what confession does with God. It done clears up the air.
God ain’t ‘a-holdin’ your sin over your head like a grumpy lil’ ol’ rooster. Psalm 103:12 done says, ”He separates our sin as far as the east is from the west.” He done forgets it faster than a goat ‘a-forgetin’ where it done left your favorite flower pot after chewin’ it up real good with the flowers in it.
But if’n you try to be ‘a-walkin’ outside the light, you ain’t never ever gonna be too happy. God’ll let you be ‘a-wanderin’, but you’ll be ‘a-feelin’ ‘bout as restless as a cow done stuck behind a closed gate. Confession is not ‘bout earnin’ forgiveness again. It’s jus’ ‘a-gettin’ the static off the line, so’s you can be ‘a-hearin’ God ‘a-talkin’ ‘bout as clear as a bell.
If somethin’ is disruptin’ your fellowship today, you gotta be ‘a-confessin’ it. You gotta be ‘a-steppin’ back into the light. When you be ‘a-doin’ them there things, the relationship is real secure. Now you gotta be ‘a-lettin’ the fellowship be ‘a-flowin’.
Father, help me be ‘a-walkin’ in Your light and not ‘a-hidin’ in the shadows. Be ‘a-showin’ me anything that’s cloggin’ up our fellowship and give me the courage to confess it quick. Keep my heart clean and my steps steady. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Well, shoot fire, Buttercup, as you start to thinkin’ ‘bout ‘a-gittin’ back into your day, and you go to steppin’ off this here porch, don’t you be ‘a-forgettin’ that fellowship with God is sweeter than fresh honey but easier to lose than a hen that done found a hole in the fence. Keep ‘a-makin’ those visits and ‘a-talkin’ with Him. Be ‘a-stayin’ in the light. And don’t be ‘a-lettin’ that there sin be ‘a-pilin’ up like laundry in a teenage boy’s bedroom. You gotta be ‘a-walkin’ with Him daily, freely, and joyfully ‘cause life in His light is the only place your soul will ever be ‘a-feelin’ really ta’ home.
With joy,
Gwen
