Fresh Mercies Served Daily
Well, hello there, friend, so glad to have you stoppin’ by for a lil’ ol’ spell. So, pull up a rocker on this here ol’ front porch, and git settled in real good because we’re gonna be checkin’ on somethin’ that’s fixin’ to warm your heart like a warm cast‑iron skillet plum full of fresh-baked biscuits. Lamentations 3:22 says, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.” That truth right there is sturdier than a lil’ barn cat that refuses to git away from the milking stool. And to deepen the message, we will weave in Psalm 34:18, which tells us, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those that are crushed in spirit.”
You ever wake up feelin’ like your thoughts are plum runnin’ around in your head the way a lil’ ol’ squirrel that got into the feed room runs around in circles? Jeremiah sho’-nuff did. He remembered his troubles so well that his soul sank faster than an ol’ hound dog that fell asleep in the sun and rolled right off the porch into the flower bed. He had a hard assignment, a thankless job, and a whole lot of wanderin’. If he had kept starin’ at the mess, he would’ve ended up bitter enough to curdle fresh cream.
But, friend, Jeremiah made a holy U‑turn. He chose to remember God’s faithfulness instead of his frustrations. He grabbed hold of hope the way an ol’ rooster grabs hold of dawn and refuses to let go. He realized we’re not consumed. We’re still here. God is not done with us. His compassion is fresh every morning, like dew on the grass before the chickens tromp through it. And Psalm 34:18 reminds us that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted, which means He is nearer than a curious lil’ ol’ raccoon that sneaks up behind you when you’re shellin’ peas on the front porch.
So, what are you dwellin’ on when your feet hit the floorboards each morning? Are you remembering the bitterness or the blessin’s? Are you lettin’ your soul slump or lettin’ God’s love lift you like a breeze lifts a clothesline full of clean sheets? Today, choose to dwell on His compassion. Let His faithfulness steady you like a good fence post that refuses to git to leanin’ over no matter how hard the wind blows.
Father, forgive me for lettin’ my mind wander into the weeds. Thank You for thinkin’ compassionate thoughts about me this very morning. Help me believe it deep down where doubt tries to hide. Shape my thoughts today with Your faithfulness. Thank You that Your mercies never fail. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Well, there it is, friend, and as you go on back into your adventurous day, remember that God’s compassion is sturdier than an ol’ onery mule that refuses to budge, sweeter than fresh honey straight from the comb, and more faithful than the sunrise that shows up even when the clouds try to hide it. Let His mercy meet you, lift you, and lead you. And may you walk today fully knowin’ you are held, helped, and never forgotten by the loving Father God of the Universe who is not too big to be unconditionally concerned for you and me.
With joy,
Gwen
