Fix Your Eyes on Him
Some mornings, when the sun peeks over the horizon like a shy kid at his first day of school, it’s worth letting your heart rise right along with it. God’s love hasn’t budged an inch since yesterday, and His guidance is still close enough to tap you right on the shoulder.
Take old King Saul, for example. Bless his heart, he’s the poster child for how not to run the spiritual race.
Samuel told him straight: “Saul, you’ve gone and done it. You didn’t follow God’s command, and now the kingdom’s slipping through your fingers” (1 Samuel 13:13-14).
Tough words, but sometimes truth comes with splinters.
Saul didn’t crash all at once. No, he slowly eased into it like someone easing into a bad habit. He cut a corner here and ignored a command there. Little things became big things, and before long, he was blaming everyone but the guy looking back at him in the mirror, and when jealousy toward David showed up, Saul welcomed it like an old friend. That bitterness just ate him alive.
But here’s the thing: God had given Saul great potential: gifts and a calling just in the same way He’s handed each of us a pair of running shoes and pointed us toward the starting line. The race is real, and the rules matter, not because God’s picky, but because He wants us to finish well.
So today, maybe take a breath and ask: What’s tugging me off course? What impulses keep tripping my feet? God’s not out to scold you. He’s out to steady you.
Father, my heart wanders and my mind drifts. Pull me back when I chase what won’t last. Set my feet steady, fix my eyes on Jesus, and anchor my soul in Your truth. Walk with me, guide me, and shape me into someone who runs well for You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Remember, every sunrise is a quiet little miracle all its own. Take a slow look around, then lift your eyes up where the real help comes from. God’s fingerprints are smudged all over your day if you’ll just pause long enough to notice ’em. And as you step into whatever’s ahead, “fix your eyes on Jesus”, just like Hebrews 12:2 says ’cause “He’s the One who started your faith, and He’s the One who’ll see it through. He’s not just the Author; He’s the Finisher”, the steady hand on your shoulder when life gets wobbly. So, run toward Him today, friend, not wander, not mosey, but run! He’s got the very best waiting for you!
With joy,
Gwen
