Faith Over Frettin’

Well, alright then, friend, look at you easin’ up this way like you’re ready for a good word and a better rest. Ok, now, come on and pull up a chair. Git yourself settled in for a lil’ ol’ spell. Let’s sit here like two folks watchin’ a long‑eared jackrabbit hoppin’ across the yard with the confidence of an ol’ barnyard goat that thinks he’s gonna win a beauty pageant. Life can make us feel a whole lot like that ol’ jackrabbit. We jump around tryin’ to dodge trouble, but the minute the world starts actin’ up, we end up frettin’ like a nervous ol’ chicken hen that just saw her reflection and got plum startled. That there’s why Psalm 37:1 and 3 settles over us like a cool breeze on a hot Texas afternoon. “Do not fret because of evildoers. Trust in the Lord, and do good.” And Nahum 1:7 says, “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knows those who trust in Him.” Friend, that there verse is like findin’ a hidden spring in the middle of a dusty pasture.

Psalm 37:1-6 reminds us that evildoers may look loud, flashy, and unstoppable, but they fade faster than grass in August. The world is plum full of headlines that git to makin’ us want to hide under the bed with an ol’ possum that wandered in lookin’ for snacks.

Nations rage. Leaders quarrel. Trouble circles the globe like a hawk lookin’ for somethin’ to swoop down on. But God calls us to trust Him and do good right where we are. Psalm 37:3 says to “feed on His faithfulness,” which means we chew on His promises instead of swallowin’ fear whole.

We can pray. We can give. We can help where we can. But often God wants us to be lookin’ around our own little patch of earth and remember that He’s the One Who  is still in charge. The world spins every twenty‑four hours whether folks behave or not. Our job is to trust its Maker and do good. Nahum 1:7 reminds us He is our stronghold when trouble comes knockin’. And Psalm 37:5 promises that if we commit our way to Him, He will bring it to pass.

Faith cures frettin’ because faith remembers who is really in control.

Father, thank You for bein’ my stronghold in every kind of trouble. Teach me to trust You more than the news, more than my fears, and more than the chaos around me. Help me do good, live faithfully, and rest in Your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Ok then, friend, as you stretch your legs and make your way from this porch out into the day ahead, you gotta be holdin’ this truth close like an ol’ farmer holds the first harvest of the season. God’s faithfulness will steady you like a sturdy ol’ mule that plum refuses to leave your side on a long trail. His peace will meet you in places as unexpected as a shy lil’ ol’ raccoon peekin’ out from behind the woodpile. And His goodness will rise in your life with the certainty of dawn breakin’ over a field that’s never once forgotten how to be shinin’. Now, git on out there and be walkin’ forward with confidence. The God who rules the nations is more than able to rule over your day.

With joy,

Gwen
