Enough Because God is with You

Well, land of buttered biscuits, would you look at this, friend? Seein’ you wanderin’ up here on this ol’ front porch is mighty special, sho’-nuff’ like a curious lil’ ol’ beaver that finally decided to quit hidin’ down by the creek and come see what’s cookin’ in the kitchen. And you better be watchin’ out for that bossy ol’ hog over yonder that’s actin’ like it’s wantin’ to be runnin’ the whole farm. So, pull up a chair for a good lil’ spell because we’re fixin’ to talk about somethin’ mighty important: contentment. Not the kind you gIt from shiny gadgets or fancy doin’s but the kind that settles way down deep in your heart when you realize the Lord Himself is your real security. Hebrews 13:5 says, “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’” We’re gonna be chewin’ on what it means to be livin’ like that promise is actually true.

I once knew an ol’ farmer who kept an ol’ wooden toolbox out in his barn. The company line from the hardware store was always the same. “Sir, you need the newest drill, the latest saw, and the upgraded wrench set.” But that ol’ farmer would just grin, tap the lid of that beat‑up box, and say, “Friend, these ol’ tools have built fences, fixed roofs, and mended gates for forty years. They may not be real shiny, but they plum still do the job.”

Then, he’d lean in and whisper, “Truth is, most folks don’t need new tools at all. They just need to learn how to use the ones they’ve already got.”

Friend, that tension is plum everywhere. The world keeps hollerin’ that you’re behind, you’re missin’ out, you need more, more, more. And before long, you’re scurryin’ around like a jittery lil’ ol’ chipmunk tryin’ to keep pace with a story God never wrote for you.

But Scripture cuts right through all that noise. 1 Timothy 6:6 says, “Godliness with contentment is great gain.” And Proverbs 15:16 says, “Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil.” That there plum means peace beats pressure every single time.

Contentment don’t mean you don’t never improve or upgrade. It plum means you stop lettin’ manufactured wants dress up like real needs. It sho’-nuff’ means you ask whether God is leadin’ you toward somethin’ or whether the world is just pushin’ you around like a stubborn ol’ mule that refuses to walk straight.

Most of what you have is already downright enough. And the One who walks with you is sho’-huff’ more than enough.

Father, thank You for providin’ what I need. Teach me to rest in Your presence, trust Your provision, and walk in contentment. Help me recognize Your voice above the noise of this world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Well, reckon what, friend, I surely am glad you stopped by this ol’ porch today. As you step back into your doin’s, let your contentment settle into your spirit the way evening shadows settle across a quiet pasture when the day finally exhales. Let your trust rise steady like a young willow learnin’ to sway without snappin’ in the breeze. Let your peace stretch across your day like a wide river glidin’ past cattails that never hurry for nothin’. And let your walk with Jesus leave behind a gentle warmth, the kind that makes folks pause and wonder why the air suddenly feels kinder. Now go on, friend, and live like the One who walks with you is truly enough.

With joy,

Gwen
