You are Never Walking Alone

All right, now, friend, come on over here in the shade of this Chinaberry tree, and have a seat in this lawn chair as I’m pretty sure that the breeze over here is cooler than up on that front porch right now. Git yourself situated and comfy ‘a-fore that nosy little raccoon gits to waddlin’ over there by the porch and decides to invite himself to have a supper on your snack. Ok, let’s take a little trip as we talk ‘bout a truth sturdier than your grandma’s wash board that’s survived way too many washings of the family’s clothes over the years. Isaiah 7:14 tells us, “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” That name right there means “God with us,” and if there is anything our hearts need on a morning, afternoon, or midnight meltdown, it is the reminder that we are never gonna be walkin’ this road of life all alone.

Take Greg Livingstone, for example, that missionary giant who grew up without a father or a steady home. He said that when Jesus moved into his heart, he finally felt adopted by a Father who would never pack up and leave him. Friend, that is Immanuel in real time. That is God with us, sittin’ closer than a barn cat who has decided your lap is now community property for him to be sittin’ on.

Psalm 46:7 says, “The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge.” And just in case we missed it the first time, verse 11 repeats it. God knew we would need that reminder more often than a rooster needs to crow. Life gets loud. Wars rage. Hearts break. Verse 10 whispers, “Be still, and know that I am God.” That is His way of sayin’, “Sit down a minute. I’ve got you.”

There are days you may feel lonelier than a goat on the wrong side of the fence. But, friend, you are never abandoned. Jesus, Immanuel, walks with you into every room, every worry, every quiet ache. And when fellowship feels thin, He fills the gap. When your heart feels empty, He fills the space. When your world feels shaky, He becomes your refuge.

Greg Livingstone once said he needed to learn the art of takin’ minute vacations. Slow down. Look at a flower. Pat a dog. Smile at a child. And most of all, enjoy companionship with God. He’s right there, waitin’ for you to notice.

Father, thank You for being Immanuel, God with us. Help me to slow down, breathe deep, and remember You are near. Draw me close when I feel alone and remind me that Your presence is my refuge. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Now, friend, as you find yourself slidin’ right back into your day like a determined little squirrel carryin’ a big ol’ nut twice its size, don’t ever forget that you are just never going to be walkin’ solo. God is gonna’ be right there with you in the quiet, the chaos, and all the in‑betweens. Let His presence steady your steps, soften your heart, and remind you that you are fully, completely, wonderfully held by Him.

With joy,

Gwen
