Blessings in Dry Places
Well, goodness gracious sakes alive, friend! Hurry up and git yourself on up here on this breezy front porch, an’ pull up a rocking chair. Make sure that you swat away that hungry, lil’ ol’ peaky mosquito that just keeps on buzzin’ ‘cause we’re gonna be takin’ a lil’ ol’ stroll right through a patch of Scripture that’s richer than a warm, fluffy biscuit dipped in gravy. You see, Genesis 26:24, where God tells Isaac, “Do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you.” That there lil’ ol’ promise sits at the heart of our talk like a plump ol’ raccoon sittin’ in the middle of a corn bin pretendin’ it ain’t got no kind o’ idea how it got in there.
In Genesis 26:23-33, Isaac is worn out from troubles pilin’ up faster than a herd o’ hungry ol’ goats at feedin’ time. There was famine. There was some real fear. There was folks fussin’ at him, and ‘cause o’ havin’ no water, them people was takin’ over and stealin’ each other’s water wells like lil’ ol’ squirrels sqabblin’ an’ snatchin’ pecans from each other. Yet, right in the middle o’ all that big pressure, God showed up in the night and said, “I am with you.” Friend, that there’s the kind o’ reassurance that makes even a nervous lil’ ol’ possum unclench his teeth.
Isaac done somethin’ real beautiful. He built an altar, pitched his tent and dug a water well. That’s some real strong faith with steel-toed boots on. He worshiped, he settled, and he worked. And before long, even his enemies came wanderin’ back sayin’, “We have certainly seen that the Lord is with you” in Genesis 26:28. Imagine that. The very folks who ran him off now wanted a peace treaty with him. God can sho’-nuff’ turn situations ‘round quicker than a rooster clearin’ his throat to crow as he’s spottin’ the sun risin’.
Then, just when the dust gits to settlin’, Isaac’s servants came ‘a-runnin’ like excited lil’ ol’ beavers announcing, “We have found water” in Genesis 26:32. Friend, when God says He’s with you, blessin’s come bubblin’ up in places you thought were just bone dry.
Father, thank You for being with me in every season. When pressures stack up like hay bales in a barn, remind me that Your presence is my peace. Help me worship, settle, and work with trust in Your promises. Let living water rise in the dry places of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
As you turn to head right on back down the trail today, remember that God’s presence is steadier than a turtle’s focus as he’s crossin’ a country road. His promises are stronger than a fence post sunk deep in cement. His blessin’s show up like surprise rain on a dusty afternoon. An’, friend, when life feels like an out-of-control herd of wild hogs runnin’ straight at you, Genesis 26:24 whispers, “Do not fear, for I am with you.” That there truth will hold you an’ keep you standin’ upright every single time. An’ when God’s presence is with you, you can expect to witness God’s supernatural hand at work making your mess into a great masterpiece for His own glory!
With joy,
Gwen
