When Heaven’s Help Doesn’t Ask for Applause
Well, bless your heart and come right on through the garden gate, friend, and take that chair by the rain barrel up here on this ol’ front porch before them on the plate right biscuits cool and somebody starts claimin’ the corner piece biscuit. There’s a big ol’ prayin’ mantis over there on the porch rail holdin’ itself like it’s conductin’ morning worship, while a big, fat bumblebee is rummagin’ through the clover with enough determination to qualify for overtime pay. Makes you wonder how much is plum happenin’ around us that we never even notice.
Scripture tells us the unseen world is very real.
Hebrews 1:14, which says, “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?” This here verse plum describes angels as “ministering spirits” sent by God to serve His purposes for those receiving salvation. Throughout Scripture, angels warn, protect, strengthen, deliver messages, and carry out God’s commands.
But here’s the real important part. Angels are downright servants. God is the Savior.
When John became overwhelmed and bowed before an angel, the angel plum stopped him and said, “Worship God.” That’s Revelation 22:8–9 in two mighty powerful words.
And Psalm 91:11 says, “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”
Notice whose angels they are and whose command they obey.
God’s.
There may have been moments when heaven protected us and we never even knew it. But we shouldn’t label every fortunate escape as an angelic intervention because Scripture doesn’t explain every circumstance that way. Sometimes God rescues. Sometimes He downright allows hardship. Either way, His presence hasn’t ever wandered off.
Even death can’t separate the believer from His care. Luke 16:22 gives the tender picture of Lazarus being carried by angels after death.
What a thought. Heaven’s servants may be real busy, but heaven’s King sho’-nuff’ deserves all the praise.
Father, thank You for caring for me in ways I can see and ways I cannot. Keep my attention on You rather than becoming fascinated with Your servants. Help me trust Your protection, Your wisdom, and Your presence in every circumstance. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Now, bless your boots! You’ve gotta be gatherin’ your things and moseyin’ on down the path, friend. An ol’ sandhill crane don’t need no applause to cross the morning sky, and a lil’ ol’ field cricket can fill a whole dusk with its musical sounds without anybody ever handin’ it a microphone. God may be doin’ more around you than your eyes can presently see. So, don’t you spend the day huntin’ for angels behind every fence post. Keep your eyes on the Lord that sends them, and give the glory where it sho’nuff belongs to the Lord Jehovah!
With joy,
Gwen
