Heaven’s Quiet Protection
Well now, friend, come stridin’ right on up that steppin’ stone path and git yourself up here on this ol’ front porch, so you can git yourself settled in real good like a tired lil’ ol’ bluebird findin’ just the right fence post at sundown. Lay your burdens down for a lil’ spell and let your weary heart catch its breath. Life can come at us like a startled ol’ mule standin’ out in a rainstorm, and there are times we plum walk away from danger scratchin’ our heads, wonderin’ how in the world we somehow done made it through. That’s where Hebrews 1:14 shines a bright lantern on the path, sho’-nuff’ remindin’ us that angels are “ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation.”
Sho’ nuff, we don’t spend our days seein’ angels flap through the trees like lil’ ol’ redbirds in the springtime, but that don’t mean they’re not near. God’s care is often mighty quiet. It works behind the curtain, soft as lil’ deer tracks out in pine straw. Psalm 34:7 says, “The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them.” Ain’t that a comfort? While we’re frettin’ like a lil’ ol’ chicken hen in a hailstorm, Heaven may already be standin’ guard in ways we never even imagined.
Sometimes folks call it pure luck when disaster just misses ‘em by an inch. But for the child of God, pure luck didn’t keep the car on the road, steady the doctor’s hand, or whisper warnin’ into the soul. The Lord downright did it. And many times, He may have done it through unseen servants carryin’ out His lovin’ command. What looks plum accidental to us may actually be His lovin’ mercy with work boots on.
So, when you think back on them real close calls, don’t just shiver a lil’ bit and move on. Stop and give thanks to the Lord. Ask Him what lesson He tucked inside that rescue. Hidden protection is still protection, and quiet mercy is still mercy. God has been better to us than a whole patch of mighty cool shade in the heat of August.
Father, thank You for Your watchful care over my life, even in moments I never fully understood. Thank You for the unseen ways You protect, guide, and preserve me. Help me never call luck what is really Your mercy. Teach me to trust You more and thank You more. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Now then, bless your lil’ ol’ heart, friend. You go right on back into this day like a lil’ ol’ lamb that sho’-nuff’ knows the Shepherd’s eye is always on the hillside. Let your heart rest easy knowin’ you’re plum never wanderin’ alone. If Heaven can send help without makin’ a big racket, then the Lord is surely still at work in ways you can’t see. So, lift your chin up, praise His name, and keep right on walkin’. There may just be more grace around the next bend than you ever dreamed.
With joy,
Gwen
