He Knows the Road You’re Walking
Well, butter my biscuit and scoot that ol’ flowerpot aside, friend. There’s a mighty good seat just waitin’ for you right up here on this ol’ front porch. Temptation can git to sneakin’ up quicker than an ol’ fox slippin’ through the weeds around the henhouse and leave your thoughts hoppin’ around like an ol’ frog plum trapped in the bottom of Grandma’s dishpan.
Sometimes we git to thinkin’, “Surely nobody understands how hard this is.” Then Hebrews 2:18 pulls a chair right up beside us and says that Jesus does. “He himself has suffered being tempted,” and because He walked through temptation Himself, “he is able to help them that are tempted.”
That plum means Jesus don’t watch your struggle from some faraway hilltop. He downright knows the whole battlefield.
Hebrews 4:15 tells us Christ was “in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Temptation itself ain’t sin. Yieldin’ to that temptation is where the trouble starts up. Even Jesus felt temptation’s pull, yet He never surrendered to it.
And 2 Peter 2:9 says, “The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations.” Notice Scripture don’t say the Lord might figure somethin’ out after studyin’ the situation. He plum knows how. Before temptation ever gits to rattlesin’ your ol’ screen door, Jesus sho’-nuff’ already knows the way through it.
Sometimes God even uses the struggle to drive us nearer to Him. A storm that sends a frightened lil’ ol’ rabbit scramblin’ toward shelter can be a great mercy if the shelter is real safe. Likewise, temptation can plum remind us that our strength was never supposed to come from ourselves.
Father, when temptation presses hard, help me run toward You instead of trying to fight alone. Thank You that Jesus understands every struggle and stands ready to help me. Give me wisdom to recognize temptation early, courage to turn away, and strength to choose what honors You. Keep my heart close to Christ because my safest place will always be near Him. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Alright now, friend, grab your hat and go meet the rest this day before temptation starts to struttin’ around like a lil’ ol’ banty rooster that plum thinks he owns the whole barnyard. You don’t have to outsmart every trap by yourself. Jesus has already walked this road, and He downright knows every single, dangerous bend. Stay close enough to Him that when trouble starts to sniffin’ around, you’re already headed toward the safest spot on the porch anywhere in all of creation.
With joy,
Gwen
